Jona
Pelovska has studied Fine Arts in Sofia School of Fine Arts,
Bulgaria, Literature in The University of Sofia and Film Production
in Concordia University, Montreal where she completed her MFA
degree in 2001. She is a member of the Canadian Authors Association.
Her experience ranges across the field
of film production, including work as writer, background artist,
director and editor.
As writer/director she has two completed
experimental shorts, The Revenge of the Butterflies
(1993/2002) and Gold (1994/2002) which have been broadcast
on MSAT (Bulgarian national TV channel) and screeneed in renowned
international art venues such as Galapagos Art Space, New York,
Art Gallery Observatoire 4, Montreal, etc. Her original work
has received financial support from Concordia University and
Canada Council for The Arts.
Jona Pelovska has been documenting the
life of Montreal Artist Brut Papa Palmerino for a mixed-media
film in progress, The Museum of Papa Palmerino. In
2001 she completed a feature-length script, called Malinka
and Other True Stories, currently in development and co-produced
by Bulfilm, Bulgaria.
Her experience in animation includes
background development for the cult feature Heavy Metal
F.A.K.K.2 (Cine Groupe/Fox), on the children’s feature
The Lion of Oz (Cine Groupe/Fox), the TV series The
Boy (Tooncan), etc.
From 1998 to 2000, Jona Pelovska has
worked as teaching assistant in Writing for Film at Concordia
University. She has subsequently led classes as guest lecturer
in Writing for Film and Film Production at Concordia University
and in New Bulgarian University. More...
